Channel Islands National Park

I was able to visit Channel Islands National Park right before I left for New Zealand. I had actually origionally intended on hiking the Grand Canyon, but, being winter, weather was a factor. As it turns out, the Channel Islands are stunningly beautiful and pretty desolate during the cold months. I was the only person backpacking (by myself, even!), and was probably one of 10 people on the island in total. I only saw one other person while hiking, which was pretty cool. Some people might not like that, but I love being alone in nature.

One of the more interesting aspects of backpacking on the island of Santa Cruz is that there is nowhere to get water, and you need to carry it all. It makes for a lot of weight, to be honest. I didn't make very good time, but I wasn't really in a rush either.

I'd love to go back someday soon!
