First Days in New Zealand

So, my last few days have been a bit hectic. I'll start with the hours right before my flight. I had just sold my car, but apparently one of the fog lights had burnt out so I was trying to help the guy I sold it to fix it. Unfortunately, I was doing this in the hour before I had to catch the hourly Caltrain to BART to SF Airport, and changing the bulb was slightly harder than I had imagined. Long story short, I barely made it to the train station in time, and it sucked being rushed while I had 4 bags to deal with. Eventually, I got to the airport and got checked in with plenty of time to spare.

The flight to Auckland was pretty uneventful. It left at 7pm, right on time. Thankfully, there was an open seat next to me so I had room to put my rather long legs somewhere that wasn't painful. I watched many hours of TV on the in-chair screens, and even got a few hours of sleep.

We ended up landing a few minutes late (on a 13 hour flight), and when that situation combined itself with a rather long customs line and bio-security screening process (they washed my boots for me, thanks NZ!), I nearly missed my flight. I ended up running through the airport (with all of my 4 giant bags), checked my bags again, and hopped on my plane to Queenstown seconds before the plane's door closed. Eak.

That flight was pretty short (less than 2 hours), and I mostly just spent it beating the guys next to me at trivia. This is where I got my first view of the quite beautiful Southern Alps.

Eventually, we landed, and none of my bags ended up lost, which was concerning because of the last minute check in I ended up doing.

I took a bus to the town center, asked the first person I saw what hostel to go to, and dragged my giant bags for 10 minutes to the place I was told to go - The Flaming Kiwi. I got a dorm bed for 25 NZD, and then finally dropped all my stuff off.

I headed back to the town center, and explored for a while. I eventually ran across the place I will be working (Xebidy), and went in to say Hi. Most of my soon-to-be coworkers were at lunch or something, but I did meet Veronica, a Chilean girl I'll be doing my first project with, apparently. She told me I should probably come back later.

So I explored some more, and then eventually arrived back at the office later, where I met the rest of the team. My boss told me to meet them at a bar called The Yacht Club in an hour, which I ultimately did.
