Majes River

We book another night, Mike wants to stay and rest, and take a day bus the next day. I want to take a night bus so we have more time. We go to a tour agency, and realize that a day bus would totally suck and waste a day. So, we decide to go for a night bus. However, that is full. Mike basically blames me and says he told me to book a night bus before we left, which of course is a total lie!  He gets all pissy (i´ll give him the benefit of the doubt, since he was sick and tired), and goes back to the hostel.  I go to other agencies to try to find a different bus. They are all full, so I have to get a night bus the next night.  I book that, but I also book a raft trip on the Majes River for the next day as well, so we don´t waste a day.  I tell Mike, we agree it's good, and go to sleep.  The next day, we get picked up and go to the bus station to go to Aplau.  The bus is a non tourist bus, so its clearly off the beaten track.  We drive for like 3 hours through this huge flat desert, eventually hitting the Majes River valley, this track of green in an expanse of brown.  We eventually get to the bus station, where we are supposed to be picked up. We are not.  We wait, and eventually call the guy. He tells us to catch a cab. So we do.  We get to the place, the guy is awesome. Its going to be just me and Mike and the guide. The owner, Julio, lets us taste his homemade wine and brandy (pisco). Then we head out.  We get on the river, the scenery is awesome. Like a small grand canyon kind of feel, I guess.  The river is great, plenty of rapids (I got tired, I'm glad there wasn't a lot more)  I got wet a lot, but the river was pretty warm and the sun was hot, so it felt great.  It seemed like I was always the one getting wet though, I think the guide may have been doing it on purpose.  Eventually it ended (again, I'm tired).  We got out and went back to this guys house/hotel.  It was great, like a little oasis in the desert.  lots of flowers, we had fresh river shrimp (big crawfish) for lunch, with just picked avocados and french fries..  It was great. I  bought a bottle of wine and a bottle of Pisco from him (which he ferments in big clay pots from 1730) and then we said our goodbyes.  We caught a minibus back to the city after a bit of waiting, and then just barely caught a bus back to Arequipa.  We got back, replaced our stuff, and got on the bus to Nazca.
