Myanmar

I was able to enter Myanmar (more commonly/historically known as Burma) from the very southern point, which borders Thailand. You can't really go anywhere if you enter from this crossing, as you are limited to one day and there are no legally travelable roads north from here.
One day, however, was fine in my case. I really just wanted to touch it for the sake of it. You depart from Thailand, and cross a river via smallish boat. Once you get to Burma, you have to pay $20 US dollars to enter, and they don't accept even perfectly nice bills. I'm pretty sure it is a scam, as they make you buy US currency at inflated exchange rates from their friends using Thai currency. We tired like 5 bills, and at least one of them was absolutely perfect - still didn't fly.
The Burmese people, on the whole, were quite nice - despite the entry issues. I'm really tall, skinny, white, and nerdy - so I got a lot of attention in the form of mildly confused stares. All the women have dirt on their face in varying amounts of artestry. Some are simple swipes, others are crazy designs. A large portion of the men have red teeth, as they chew a nut that stains them. Apparenty it is desirable for whatever reason.
We didn't have a lot of time to look around, so we just visited some temples and walked through the local markets. It definitely felt a bit more exotic than Thailand, and I'd like to go back at some point (hopefully after the current government fails miserably).
