Yahoo!

Yahoo! was the job that got me out of Missouri, something that had been needing to happen for quite a while. To be honest, that is probably how I will remember it best. Either that, or foosball. I was on the Yahoo! Help team, which built (or, rather, modified) the Drupal based CMS that held help content for different web properties. I didn't actually get all that much accomplished during my time there, I think the only thing of any reasonable size that I actually really produced was a web application that did XSLT processing on some files (I suppose it was reasonably complex, but it certainly wasn't anything special). That said, I wasn't actually at Yahoo! for that long, either - just shy of 8 months. Yahoo! Help wasn't exactly a high priority for anyone, and there honestly didn't seem like there was really much work to be done. Especially since there was 5 developers plus a manager on the team.

Regardless, I was laid off. I can't say I was surprised, as I was the newest person on the team and admittedly the least important. Fortunately, I got a significant severance package that allowed me to travel for quite a while, so it all turned out swell.
